Is there a more fitting venue (other than Old Trafford) for Manchester City to be crowned the best Premier League champions of all time?

United have mocked City’s failures for so long and enjoyed so many moments of glory for the boys in red, but a blue wave is sweeping the city, and it is here to stay.

Silverware has flowed into the Etihad since the UAE takeover and the banners they take are no more.

Manchester United enjoyed trophy after trophy under the stewardship of Sir Alex Ferguson, but since his retirement, David Moyes, Louis Van Gaal and Jose Mourinho have all failed to deliver (I think, for once, Ryan Giggs can’t be blamed).

United remain on course for their highest finish in the Premier League since winning the 2012-13 title in Fergie's final season in charge, having finished seventh, fourth, fifth and sixth in the past four campaigns.

Current United boss Mourinho himself admitted is “impossible” to keep up with City following his side’s demolition of Swansea City on Saturday.

City went on to beat Everton 3-1 to confirm that they can win the Premier League title when they play ahost to United on Saturday.

That in itself tells a story.

Mourinho sounds like a defeated man. United are second in the league, the best they have been since Fergie quit – there was relegation talk a few years back, for goodness sake.

Mourinho got them back up there, but it is not good enough for United.

The board and the fans demand success every day, which – for right or wrong – is why Moyes and Van Gaal did not get a chance to stay at the helm.

I do not think Mourinho – transient at best – will stay long enough to stabilise the club.

All of which means one, quite obvious, thing. City win.

When you see the ease with which they play under Pep Guardiola, these outrageous players in the shape of Aguero, Silva, De Bruyne, Sterling and Sane will continue to dominate for years to come.

If anything, Liverpool look like the team guys want to play for out of the top six. Chelsea: whimsical; Tottenham: perennial also-rans; Arsenal: freefall.

People now want to play for City over United. It is so clear when you see Alexis Sanchez hankering for a move to City, ending up at United and looking like he lost the raffle.

Suck it up United, because it’s not going to change for a while.
