Effective

It helps you focus on your goals

There is some merit to the philosophy in terms of effective visualisation. When you visualise something you are gearing all o fyour behaviour deicsions and actions towards the vision increasing your chances of achieving it. In terms of feeling successfu the issue is people do’t internalise the achievements that they do make so they don’t lfeel succesful. Many people are too hard on themselves, especially women — it is well-known that women tend to be more self-critical than men.

Also, if you see someone who you think is more successful than what their skills might show, the question to ask is: how is that a problem for you? Are you doubting the management’s capability or are you comparing themselves to the person and it is trigering them. Ask yourself: If I contiue to be jealous and frustrated how is that affecting my communication with that person and my behaviour towards that person? How is that going to impact my career moving forard. The important thing to remember is that they are on their journey and you are on yours.

Be realistic

I retain clients because I don’t fake it

It might help sometimes, but not always. I work in the field of sales and first of all, you need to know what the customer’s requirement is. It is not necessary that your client will like what you have with you. As a professional, I know exactly what the customer needs and I can sell him what is required — whether I do that from what I have to sell or get it from someone else. As a client myself, I know that I do not need to buy what the sales person is selling to me, I need to buy what I need. I cater to my client similarly because I have a realistic approach instead of trying to fake it. I have seen people doing that but it doesn’t work in the long run. In the end, when the customer will not be satisfied with the product you are selling, they will move to someone else. So, you are not building up the market, you are losing the client. Retaining a client is more important than selling a product.

Success

Confidence is important but so is skill

‘Fake it till you make it’ can only help for some time, until the people around you see what you are doing. For example, you could fake it in a job interview, claiming you have worked on certain projects and have a lot of knowledge and in reality, a few months after you get the job, it will all show in your results. Instead, I believe in working your way up.

I do believe confidence is very important in everything that we do but if you don’t have the knowledge behind that confidence, it will all go sideways. So, knowledge, confidence and character all help you along the way.

Social media debate

Social media users appeared to be in support of the philosophy, saying it had more to do with tricking yourself than tricking others.

[Facebook+pic] Christina Marie: If you wait, you’ll never get any. Fake it till you make it.

[Facebook] Little Rosette: Did you know smiling can trigger your brain to believe it’s happy even if you didn’t feel happy before smiling? Smiling causes the brain to release the hormones dopamine and serotonin, which help to reduce stress and increase feelings of contentment. In turn, this can boost your immune system, help you sleep and make you live longer. When someone smiles at you, an equally unconscious reaction happens and you will often find yourself smiling back before you have even consciously clocked what’s happened. So, even when you’re feeling a little blue, as odd as it may feel, go and smile at yourself in the bathroom mirror and see how you feel and make a point of smiling at a stranger this weekend. See how they react. Smiling just may change the world.

[Twitter] @RaqGraft: If I had insecurities you lot wouldn’t even know. Confidence is key and if you don’t have it, fake it till you make it
