Community reports help us highlight issues we spot in our community. But, I’m writing about an issue that was resolved after my report was published.

In May, 2017, I had written a community report for Gulf News highlighting the issues we had to face due to traffic on a daily basis when travelling from International City towards Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Road (“A signal will ease traffic issues in this area”, Gulf News, May 10, 2017). Today, that issue has been resolved.

The newspaper had not just run the report, but also raised it with the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

At the time, the RTA had stated: “Thank you for contacting the RTA. Please note that the RTA’s project ‘Improvement of Al Awir Road and International City Accesses’, which we have published about earlier and mentioned regarding the diversions, is currently under implementation and traffic solutions are proposed for the area, including the referenced roundabout.”

Just as the RTA had said, the project in that area is now complete and a signal has been installed at the exit I had referred to in my earlier report. The before and after pictures clearly show how smooth the traffic flow has become in the area, which is a great relief.

I am grateful to both Gulf News and the RTA for helping resolve this issue that was faced by several residents every day.
