I joined Mashreq bank in 2013, and at the time of joining, the bank gave us all a staff credit card with a limit of Dh5,000. I resigned after one month and joined another company in Dubai. As informed by Mashreq at the time of full and final settlement, I converted my staff credit card to a personal one, and they issued me a new credit card. Only after this was my visa cancelled.

After one year, I received a call that I had an outstanding of Dh28,000 on my staff card, although that card was closed, as they had issued a new card. I explained my case to the bank staff again and they assured me that they would clear up the issue, as it was their mistake.

But I received a call after one year, saying that my outstanding was now Dh35,000.

Now, in 2018, the amount keeps growing, even after I follow up with the bank repeatedly. I visited their branch again in March 2018 and they cleared my name and issued a No Objection Certificate. But because of this, my Al Etihad Credit Bureau report has been tarnished and I am not able to apply for an auto loan.

From Mr Ravi Kant Ashok Kumar

Dubai

The management of Mashreq responds:

Thank you for highlighting Mr Kumar’s concern with us.

Mr Kumar is a former Mashreq staff and he has upgraded his staff credit card to a customer credit card upon resignation.

Due to an inadvertent delay in the upgrade process, Mr Kumar was charged with late payment fees on the staff credit card and the charges kept accumulating since the credit card remained unpaid.

Mr Kumar was later contacted by our recovery team and the charges were waived as a write off hence the same is updated with Al Etihad Credit Bureau.

We have taken necessary approvals to overwrite the delinquency reported on Mr Kumar’s credit card and the process will be completed within the next five-seven business days.

Mr Kumar has been contacted and informed regarding the same.

We take this opportunity to thank Gulf News once again for bringing this issue to our notice.

(Process initiation: July 2. Response from organisation: July 4. Process completion: July 9.)
