DUBAI: Unrealistic beauty standards, body image, demands of social media, loneliness and depression – the challenges that today’s teenagers face are many. And what better way to tackle them than theatrics?

Giving expression to the touchy subject of teen troubles in a novel play called Slumber Party Confessions, writer Zareen Khan of W2W Events in Dubai hopes to bring them out into the open.

She said youngsters should make the most of the opportunity as auditions for the play are scheduled to be held at Mad About Dance studio on April 14.

“The play focuses on the growing pains of teenagers and is very relevant to the situation they find themselves in. Most teenagers today lead a dual life with a virtual and a real version. We hope to address their harsh realities and encourage open discussions and understanding by using light humour and dance in the backdrop,” said Khan.

She said the play will feature six girls as the main actors, besides six boys. “We will also need 30 girls and 20 boys as dancers. Applicants must be between 15 and 22 years. Children of all nationalities are eligible.”

Mahima Mehta, founder of MAD and producer of the play, said, “We are excited to showcase this brilliant theatrical play for our audiences, it has drama, emotions, conflict, comedic timing and an inspiring narrative which truly relates to current times.”

Kalyan Chakravarthy, play director, said, “I have always been passionate about theatre and the performing arts and I am looking forward to mentoring and training young actors to be confident and expressive on stage. I encourage all aspiring actors to audition.”

The auditions will be held at the Mad About Dance studio at Centrepoint Mall in Bur Dubai.
