Dubai: A Pakistani teenager is organising an indoor cricket tournament to raise money for Dubai Cares.
Meeran Fehmi, 17, a Year 12 student at Dubai College, said all proceeds from Cricket for a Cause (CFAC) will go to aid philanthropic organisation Dubai Cares which has been working to improve children’s access to quality primary education in developing countries. Currently on at Ahdaaf Sports Club in Al Quoz, the fast-faced six-a-side tournament features eight corporate teams including Haier, Hale Education Group, The Entertainer, Jones the Grocer, Du, Valustrat, Windmills group.
Matches are held daily be-tween 7.30 and 9.30pm
Overwhelming respose
Fehmi, who has so far collected Dh16,000, said he hopes to raise another Dh15,000 by the time the tournment ends on June 24.
“The response has been overwhelming to say the least. The contributions have largely come from sponsors, many of whom are also taking part in the contest,” he added.
“I am passionate about cricket and have been playing it since I was a child. I am also passionate about charity so I thought why not club the two,” said Fehmi.
CFAC is a student-led initiative licensed by the Islamic Affairs Committee to raise funds for Dubai Cares.
In its inaugural year 2015 it raised Dh13,300.
