The inaugural Short+Sweet Poetry Festival will be held at The Junction, Alserkal Avenue, on September 22 and 23. Hopefuls will be able to compete for the title of Dubai’s best poet, which will be held on the second day at 7.30pm.

The open competition will have a time limit of five minutes where people can present as many poems as they like in either English, Arabic or Hindi. A written version of the poem presented should also be on hand.

Participants can compete across three different categories: ages 12 and under, 13 to 18 and open.

The 12 and under poets will present at 11am on the first day of the festival; poets between the ages of 13 to 18 will compete at 2pm. That same evening the best poets from both sections, as selected by the judges and the audience, will compete in the Junior Gala Final.

The following day there will be two rounds of the open competition, at 11am and at 2pm, with the best poets going to the Gala Final at 7.30pm.

Entry for poets is free and registration can be completed from Short+Sweet’s website. Tickets for the festival are priced at Dh50.
