Dubai: Suncity Gladiators fought valiantly to down Athena Warriors and win the Danube presents United Premier League Season 4 title.
This monthlong indoor cricket tournament, held at Insportz Club, was contested by 10 teams.
In the final, Suncity Gladiators won the toss and elected to bat. All four pairs played risk-free cricket and their captain, Sachin Talwar, led from the front to help Gladiators post an impressive 99 from their 16 overs.
Athena Warriors’ chase began on a bad note with their first pair managing just 11 runs. Their second pair bounced back with 30 runs but Suncity mounted pressure by taking wickets regularly.
Athena fell short of the target by 22 runs.
Anis Sajan, Managing Director Danube Group, said: “The speciality of this tournament was that UPL gives chance to teams from A division to G division to contest against each other and gain experience. The passion and enthusiasm with which all the 10 teams who contested will encourage the organisers to continue hosting the event.”
Thee Individual award winners are: Man of the final: Yash Makar (Suncity). Player of the tournament: Usman Munir (Athena). Best batsman: Sachin Talwar (Suncity), Best bowler: Manav Serai (JayB Stars). Fair Play award: Khiara Knights.
In the ongoing 17th Oasis Chemicals Cup tournament at the Ocean Fair Sports Club ground in DIP area, Ocean Fair Sports Club defeated Yes Bank Premium Aces by 93 runs. Ocean Fair posted 176 for eight through young Ram Narayan top scoring with 46 runs and, Yaqoob Richi chipping in with 41 runs.
Yes Bank were bowled out for 83 in 13 overs.
