Dubai: The annual Nad Al Sheba (NAS) Sports Tournament will go international this Ramadan following the signing of an agreement between the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) and the Egyptian Olympic Committee (EOC) and Jordan Volleyball Federation (JVF).
Organised annually by the DSC to mark the month of Ramadan under the patronage of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of DSC, the NAS Sports Tournament has grown in popularity over the past five years. The event is now set to wow new fans during its sixth edition following the deal with the Egyptian and Jordan bodies.
The agreements were signed by Saeed Hareb, General Secretary of DSC, Sharif Ahmad Al Arian, General Secretary of the Egyptian Olympic Committee and Basheer Ahmad Al Alwan, Deputy President of the Jordan Volleyball Federation. Also present at the signing were Salah Amin Saleh, member of DSC’s Board of Directors and Deputy Chairman of the NAS Sports Tournament’s Organising Committee, and Nasser Aman Al Rahma, Assistant General Secretary of DSC.
As per the agreement, a five-a-side futsal competition will be held in Cairo from the 7th to 11th day of Ramadan. The tournament will see eight teams representing eight different Egyptian Olympic sports federations battle for honours on the l pitch. The Jordan Volleyball Federation will organise an eight-team volleyball tournament, which will be held from the 9th to the 16th day of Ramadan in Amman.
“The NAS Sports Tournament was launched as a pioneering community sports initiative and it has made a significant impact on our sports sector, and on all sectors of our community. Today, as we celebrate the Year of Zayed, we are pleased to announce the expansion of this pioneering tour event to Egypt and Jordan,” Hareb said.
Al Arian noted that the agreement was a “confirmation of the deep-rooted bilateral relations between the UAE and Egypt”, which were established by the late Shaikh Zayed. “I am pleased to convey the deep appreciation at being chosen as a host of the first overseas edition of the NAS Sports Tournament,” Al Arian said.
