Dubai: Owing to popular demand, the Women’s Sports Development Section of Dubai Sports Council (DSC) is considering an increase in the number of sporting activities for women in the near future.

First on its list is a first-ever five-a-side football tournament for women at The Dome situated at Al Wasl Club along the Dubai-Al Ain road on August 31 followed by the second edition of the Dubai Women’s Triathlon on November 6.

“In a matter of few years we have witnessed an increase in the number of sporting activities for women. Our leaders have earmarked August 28 as the ‘Emirati Women’s Day’ and the football tournament is meant to celebrate this occasion,” Fawzia Mohammad Faraidoon, manager of Women’s Sports Development Section at DSC told Gulf News.

“Besides this we have more than 100 girls attending a special sports camp conducted at the Swiss International School in Al Jaddaf. But the biggest one will be the sixth edition of the Shaikha Hind Women’s Sports Tournament from October 16-31,” she added.
