Sharjah: Chemietech Cricket Club emerged as the Alliance Ramadan T20 champions league winners by defeating Colatta Cricket Club by nine wickets at the Alliance Cricket Ground in Hamriyah.

Batting first, Colatta got off to a poor start with their in-form batsman Shakeer Hydru dismissed in the second over. Balwinder Singh joined Sharad Nair and put on a 47-run partnership but Mohammad Rashid with three wickets and Asif Mumtaz and Boota with two wickets apiece put the brakes on the Colatta innings. Amjad Gujjar and Vishnu Sukumaran scored 23 runs each but Colatta could ultimately muster only 137 for 9 in 20 overs.

In reply, Chemietech got off to a brilliant start with their openers putting on 75 runs in 5.5 overs. Samiyullah Younus smashed 87 from 52 balls while Babar Ghazanfar scored just five. Mohammad Qazim then chipped in with 36 from 21 balls to ensure a nine-wicket win in 13.1 overs.

Though Chemietch’s Rashid took three wickets, it was Asif Mumtaz who spun a web around the Colatta batsmen giving away just 11 runs in his four overs and taking two wickets in the bargain.

The tournament contested by eight teams received strong sponsorship support, especially from Carfare Group, Cosmo Cosmetics, Hamidi Oud and Perfumes, ARMAF, Pocari Sweats, Colatta Chocalates, Zamzam Group, Global Computers and Nova Group.

Speaking to Gulf News, organiser Ajmal Mashir said: “This tournament is so popular and hence sponsorship support too has increased with reputed organisations backing it. Now we are planning to stage Alliance tournaments throughout the year.”
