Dubai: The General Secretary of the UAE Football Association (UAE FA) is fully behind UAE coach Alberto Zaccheroni as the country mounts their challenge to win an elusive Asian Cup trophy next year.

“We fully support his vision and strategy behind putting together a programme for the national team’s preparations for the Asian Cup. There will be two matches each in September, October and November, and we expect the team to peak in time for the Asian Cup in January,” Nasser Al Junaibi, general secretary, UAE FA, told media on Saturday.

“Since the past few months we have seen him and his team as hard workers who are ready to take on this challenge of leading the UAE at the Asian Cup. He [Zaccheroni] has a vision. He knows what he wants, and he knows how to achieve this goal. We trust him and we rely on his ability and experience to deliver,” Al Junaibi added.

The UAE hosted the continental competition 22 years back in 1996 where they ended runners-up to Saudi Arabia after a penalty shoot-out under coach Tomislav Ivic.
