Dubai: Former Al Wasl coach Rodolfo Arruabarrena was unveiled as Jose Luis Sierra’s replacement at Shabab Ahli on Friday.

Sierra lost three of his first five Arabian Gulf League games in charge of Shabab Ahli since replacing Mahdi Ali over the summer. This left the club in seventh spot in the league, seven points off leaders Sharjah.

Arruabarrena comes in after having parted company with Qatar’s Al Rayyan after picking up just four wins from the first eight games of the season there.

The Argentine former Boca Juniors boss previously led Al Wasl to a second and then third place Arabian Gulf League finish over the past two seasons.

He left for Al Rayyan at the end of last season after losing the finals of both domestic cup competitions at Al Wasl, where he was replaced by Gustavo Quinteros.

The change at Shabab Ahli has likely been made now because there is a break in league fixtures for international friendlies. There are still cup matches ongoing however until the league resumes next weekend.

Arruabarrena’s first game in charge will be at home to Ajman in the Arabian Gulf Cup on Sunday before travelling to Dibba in the league next Friday.
