Dubai: The UAE women’s team produced another poor batting performance in the ICC Women’s World T20 Qualifier in Netherlands and crashed to a seven-wicket defeat to Thailand in the fifth-place play-off final.

UAE were bowled out for 50 runs in 18.1 overs by Thailand. Except for Esha Oza, who hit 15 runs, none of the other batswomen crossed double figures.

In their previous match against Bangladesh, UAE were bowled out for 39 and lost by eight wickets.

Again except for Esha, who hit 18 runs, none of the other batswomen reached double figures.

Except for Nisha Ali who hit a half century against Netherlands in the first match, the team’s batting has struggled throughout the tournament.

UAE tried to fight back with the meagre total against Thailand. Subha Srinivasan, who had bowled brilliantly throughout the tournament, reduced Thailand to 28 for three in the first 10 overs.

She produced a fine spell of two for 15 from her four overs. Thailand skipper Sornnarin Tippoch hit an unbeaten 14 runs along with Naruemol Chaiwai (14) to ensure the victory in 15.3 overs.

UAE will now play Netherlands once again in the seventh/eighth play-off.

Bangladesh and Ireland booked the two spots for the forthcoming Women’s World T20 in the West Indies.
