Dubai: Top sports officials of the UAE have backed the inaugural edition of the Dubai Women’s Triathlon to be held in the first week of next month.

The Dubai Women’s Triathlon has been scheduled to be held under the auspices of the Women’s Sports Committee of Dubai Sports Council (DSC) at the Dubai Ladies Club along Jumeirah Road on November 3.

Saeed Hareb, General Secretary of DSC announced that the event will be held in three categories, namely a Super Sprint race (400m swim, 10km cycling and 2.5km run), a Sprint race (750m swim, 20km cycling and 5km run) and a Short race (1.5km swim, 30km cycling and 10km run).

“It gives us great pride to be the first place to organise a women’s-only triathlon in Dubai,” Moza Al Merri, Board Member of DSC and the chairperson of DWSC, noted.

“Women of all nationalities, age groups and fitness levels can register in the triathlon, and the competition will be held in a privacy setting that allows participants to compete comfortably in keeping with the customs and traditions of our community,” she added.

Al Merri also, announced that the entire revenue earned from the event revenue will be donated to charity in keeping with the ‘Year of Giving’. “We will be collaboration with the Al Jalila Foundation to support women with disabilities by providing them with artificial limbs and get them involved in sports and normal life again,” Al Merri said.

Lamia Abdul Aziz Khan, Chairperson, Organising Committee, DWT and Vice Chairperson of Women’s Sports Committee, and director of DLC, said: “We are delighted to bring this type of global women’s competition to the UAE. Sports activities for women in the UAE have improved considerably over the past few years, and that in turn, has reflected in women winning laurels abroad.”

The event will commence with the swimming at the Dubai Ladies Club (DLC) and then move on to the cycling along the Jumeirah road from Union House Museum and Al Thanya Street and conclude with the run at the Dubai Water Canal.

Registration for the race has already commenced and will continue till October 30 through the official DSC website (www.dubaisc.ae).
