Dubai: Australia’s Nick Kyrgios has reiterated that his fued with Stan Wawrinka is done, dusted and buried.

The 20-year-old and the Swiss world number four were allegedly involved in an angry confrontation in the locker room after the Australian apparently made an obscene remark about his opponent’s girlfriend during the Montreal Masters in mid-August last year.

Kyrgios’s on-court comment to Wawrinka about his girlfriend Donna Vekic had prompted a storm of controversy in tennis - with the Australian fined $10,000 (Dh36,500) for his remarks that were picked up by a courtside microphone.

Kyrios’s brother Christos, who travels with him on tour, later claimed that the two players were also involved in a locker room scuffle after the match. The Australian later sent an apology on social media.

Subsequently, both players were drafted as part of the same squad by the Singapore Slammers who went on to dethrone reigning champions Indian Aces in the final of the International Premier Tennis League (IPTL), launched by Indian doubles legend Mahesh Bhupathi.

And since then a lot has changed for the duo.

“I think we have talked a lot, obviously, since the incident. I think we have both moved on from it. We played on the same team in IPTL and that was actually really good. I got to know him a little bit more. He played great there. He’s one of the best players in the world, no doubt,” Kyrgios told media after defeating third seed Tomas Berdych for the second time in two weeks, having beaten the Czech last week in Marseille.

“We’ve all been chatting. I feel we’re much more comfortable with each other now. It’s almost like nothing happened,” Kyrgios added.

That win on Thursday set him up for a semi-final match-up either with Wawrinka or Philipp Kohlschreiber on Friday. They were due to play on Thursday night. Kyrgios has no qualms in facing the Swiss star on the other side of the net in case he does make the last four stages of the tournament.

“He’s playing great tennis. Whether it’s him [Wawrinka] or Kohlschreiber, I’m not going to do anything different. I’m just going to go out there and see what happens [in the semi-finals],” he added.
