The aim of boxing in simple: try to knock your opponent out or score a higher number of punches. Popular types of punches includes cross, right, jab and uppercut.

Olympic boxing matches last for three rounds of three minutes each for men and four rounds of two minutes each for women.

At the Rio 2016 Games, there will be 10 weight categories for men and three for women. In all weight categories, the boxing competition will be held in standard single elimination form.

Semi-finals winners of each category will compete for the gold medal, whilst the athletes who lost in the semi-finals will receive bronze medals.
