Detroit: Dubai-born Indy Car driver Ed Jones made up for his failure to finish last week’s Indy 500 by finishing sixth and third in last weekend’s Detroit double-header.

After eight rounds of the 17-stage season, the 23-year-old Englishman is now 12th in the standings (up from 18th) with two podiums and a total four top 10 finishes. Jones started from 11th on the grid in race one to finish sixth, and started from fourth on the grid in race two to finish third.

It came just a week after he was hospitalised after crashing out of the Indy 500.

Meanwhile, his Chip Ganassi teammate Scott Dixon won race one for the team’s first victory of the season.

“We started off a bit slow, but the important thing is that we improved with every session and earned our way to the podium,” said Jones.

“Things played out well for us, and while we didn’t quite have enough to get by Will Power for second in race two, the podium was another step in the right direction and I’m already looking forward to getting back after it at Texas in a few short days. Let’s see if we can’t go a couple of spots better again.”

The Indy Car Series now moves to round nine in Texas on Saturday, June 9.
