Formula Gulf 1000 - 2015/16 season

Next race Rounds 9 and 10 Circuit Dubai Autodrome When Friday February 18 and Saturday February 19, 2016

Dubai-based GulfSport Racing has been enjoying a busy season. As the profile of motorsport continues to grow in the region, the Formula Gulf series has been buoyed by some of its young racing stars being awarded international recognition.

Azerbaijan's Gulhuseyn Abdullayev has been chosen as one of only three official ambassadors for the 2016 Formula 1 Grand Prix of Europe which takes place on the brand new Baku Circuit in Azerbaijan on June 19.

Meanwhile, Denmark's 15-year-old Cato Poulsen was featured at the recent Danish Motorsport Show where he was able to meet with potential sponsors ahead of his summer racing campaign in Europe.

Poulsen, who is heading GulfSport's Formula Gulf Championship after scoring five wins from eight races, will be looking to consolidate his position now that rival, Saudi Arabia’s Mashuur Balhejaila, has been forced into retirement owing to lack of sponsorship.

The young Dane now faces a new rival in the shape of Azerbaijan’s Abdullayev who took a fine a win last time out.

Up for grabs in this season’s FG1000 series is a Formula 3 test in Spain with GP2 team Campos Racing and a VIP trip to Le Mans 24-Hour courtesy of Gulf Oil.

The fight for second place in the championship is now in the sights of Saudi Arabia’s Omar Gazzaz and Dubai-based Italian driver Giulio Peroni. Bahrain's youngest single-seater driver, Abdullah Beshara, is expected to return to action at Dubai Autodrome this week. After finishing on the podium in both races at Yas Marina Circuit on his debut last month, he will be hungry to further upset the pecking order.

GulfSport Racing has trained 46 drivers from 20 countries in the UAE, many of whom have gone on to represent their country in Formula Renault, Formula 4, EuroFormula Open (F3), RX Lites (Rallycross) and the FIA Middle East Rally Championship.

Rounds 9 and 10 takes place at Dubai Autodrome on February 18 and 19. Racing starts at 12.25pm on Friday. Entry is free of charge.
