Dubai: Navaraj Shrestha was crowned ‘Champion of Champions’ as karatekas from Al Ainawi Karate Centre, Al Ain and Oriental Karate Centre, Abu Dhabi hogged the limelight at the end of the 14th Annual JKS Cup held at the Shabab Al Ahli Dubai Club earlier this week.

Representing the Karate Kid Martial Arts Centre, Dubai, Shrestha came through as the best fighter at the conclusion of the inter-category competition.

Earlier in the day, karatekas from Al Ainawi Karate Centre, Al Ain and Oriental Karate Centre, Abu Dhabi took control of the various weight categories with Saabri Rahman and Shivani TK from the Al Ain centre being crowned U12 and U14 Master Champ and Miss Champ, respectively.

For the centre from Abu Dhabi, it was Dana Yousuf being adjudged U12 Miss Champ along with her teammate Timor Munir Abida who claimed the U14 Master Champ title. But it was Shrestha who was the best at the daylong competition with the Champion of Champions crown.

Abdullah Baniyas, President, JKS Management presented trophies to various winners at the end of the competition in the presence of Shefin KR, Director, JKS.

The JKS Cup brings together athletes from nearly 85 karate clubs from across the UAE. More than 800 participants from across the country participated this year during the daylong competition that has been conceptualised more as a sports carnival with various other activities thrown in such as food stalls, merchandising kiosks and activities for children.

The Shoto United Federation today boasts nearly 200 affiliates amounting to more than 6,000 members spread through nearly 60 countries worldwide. The main focus of the JKS World Federation has been continually pushing karate with the purpose of spreading and developing the sport among all age groups.
