Dubai. UAE Hockey Federation is on a talent hunt to sport men and women hockey players. Though private tournaments are being held at times, it has not unearthed enough talent. The UAE Hockey Federation has now opened the doors for girls who like to play hockey. Plans are on to stage matches in different schools.

Last week an event for UAE National Stars Girls under 14 hockey teams was held at the New World Private School Dubai indoor hall.

Dr. Haya Ibrahim who is the Head of Women’s committee of the UAE Hockey Federation watched the action.

Speaking after the event, Haya said: “It is indeed nice to see many parents of the girls interested in hockey come out and support and encourage the event. It is very important to have their full support to develop in the girls a love for the game.”

These exhibition matches were played between girl’s teams of New World Private School Dubai and Al Ansar International School, Sharjah. The match was won by New World Private School, Dubai.

The match was witnessed by Atiq Juma, General Secretary UAE Hockey Federation and Abdulla Al Tuneiji, Head of Competitions committee. The principals of the schools such as Moussa Ouarou of New World Private School and Dr Najah Baltaji of Al Ansar International School were also present.

The matches were held under the supervision of professional coaches, especially. Mohammad Al Sherbiny.

Based on the performance awards were given to the best and emerging players and two best players were chosen from each school.

Ismail Ali Al Banna, President of the UAE Hockey Federation, expressed his delight at the performance of the girls and is hoping more girls will take up the game soon.
