Dubai: With a resurgent 2017 under the belt, Ian Poulter is ready to take to the pistes and relax.
A late-season charge has thrust the notoriously feisty Englishman back into Ryder Cup contention and back into the limelight.
The Briton, who was ready to concede he would not even be playing in Dubai at the DP World Tour Championship this weekend, has rediscovered his form.
Big style.
He almost lost his card due to a slump in form earlier this season and was also outside the top 60, who made to Jumeirah Golf Estates as recently as last month.
But he roared back with top-20 finishes in Turkey and South Africa to force his way into the reckoning ahead of the showdown between Europe’s best and the United States at Le National in France when Thomas Bjorn’s boys take on the Americans in Paris next year.
Poulter has been instrumental in Europe’s recent dominance of the Ryder Cup, and after another solid weekend in Dubai, which has him sitting inside the top half after a two-under-par 70 on Saturday, has his eye on cooler climes.
“I’m going to take eight weeks off now,” he said. “I will review where we are [for next season] after my time skiing.
“I’m just looking forward to some time on the slopes.”
He illustrated his hunger to perform in the international stage when he added: “The Ryder Cup is still my goal.”
