Hang on. What year is it?

Manchester City edge one game away from the Premier League title. Manchester United romp to another win.

Barcelona are rescued by Lionel Messi. Bayern Munich demolish Borussia Dortmund to all but win the Bundesliga.

But Zlatan Ibrahimovic hogs the headlines.

Zlatan: once the scourge of European teams during his time with (deep breath) Malmo, Ajax, Juventus, Inter Milan, Barcelona, AC Milan, Paris St-Germain, Manchester United and now the heady heights of LA Galaxy.

The Swede sauntered to America last month having picked up almost every trophy on offer in Italy, Spain, France and across Europe.

Many thought it was another pay-day in Los Angeles for a star who had faded and was surplus to requirements at Manchester United.

Then he goes and does this:

On his Galaxy debut, his side were 3-0 down against cross-town upstarts LAFC, he comes off the bench less than two days after landing in the States, scores a screamer to level the match before banging in the winner.

In an LA derby no less. Perfect for Hollywood.

Has anyone made such an impact wherever he goes?

He even took headlines away from Anthony Joshua’s heavyweight unification success in Cardiff.

That maybe expected from a man who speaks like a boxer, priding himself above all, going as far as insulting an entire country during his time in Paris and having been branded as the most arrogant footballer in the world by L’Equipe.

Yes, he is arrogant. People love to hate him.

But people love him equally and football will be a poorer place without him when he finally hangs up his boots.

I hope LA Galaxy – and the rest of the universe – enjoys it while they have him.
