Legendary Pakistan left-arm pacer Wasim Akram revealed that he is a supporter of his cricket mentor Imran Khan, but hasn’t joined any political party.
Pakistan newspapers have reported that Akram is joining Khan’s party Tehreek-e-Insaf. Speaking to Gulf News from Pakistan Akram said: “I do support Imran bhai (brother) but I haven’t joined any political party.”
Akram considers Khan as one who helped him a lot in his career and taught him many qualities that is needed to be successful. Speaking about Imran, Akram had once told Gulf News: “Imran was instrumental for my success. But for him I wouldn’t have known how to bowl to some of the best batsmen in the world. It was he who told me the strong points and weaknesses of some of the top batsmen. I have always listened to his advice very carefully.”
Akram, who was in Sharjah last week as Ambassador for the 10PL tennis ball cricket tournament, had rushed back immediately to be the commentator of the Pakistan Super League final in Karachi. While in Sharjah, Akram revealed that he supports Khan’s Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (SKMCH&RC). “ I will be flying to Australia in April with regard to Imran’s hospital launch. Since Imran will be busy with politics he had asked to me if I would be free to go there.”
Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Foundation Limited (SKMCFL) is registered with the Australian Charities & Not-For-Profits Commission (ACNC).
Pakistan newspapers have reported that Akram will also be attending Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's 'Huqooq-e-Karachi March'. The rally is scheduled for April 30 to raise voice for Karachi's civic issues. PTI leader Ali Haider Zaidi has tweeted that they had invited Akram to the march and the former cricketer will be participating alongside the party leaders to raise his voice for Karachi’s rights.
