Dubai: The 11th edition of the annual Dubai Properties’ Dragon Boat Race will be held on February 9-10.

Hosted by Dubai Properties, race organisers are expecting more than 1,500 participants from more than 75 teams turning up at Marasi Business Bay from 8am on February 9.

Participating teams will be provided with a dragon boat and all necessary equipment on the day of the race. Teams will also receive dedicated training sessions at the hands of an international Dragon Boat coach prior to the race. Race participation will be for 20 team members per boat, with a maximum of 16 males on a team.

Originating in China more than 2,500 years ago, Dragon Boat racing was first established in the UAE more than a decade ago. Over the years the sport has grown into a popular watersports activity with more than 10,000 participants at various races throughout the season.

Spectators can enter free, but there will be an entry fee of Dh10,000 for corporate and social teams, while schools and universities will be charged Dh2,500.
