Motorists have been warned to drive safely during foggy weather conditions. The warning comes after a day of chaos on the roads as rush-hour commuters faced huge traffic snarls and visibility was reduced to less than 100 metres in some areas.

While fog blankets the country during this time of the year, motorists sometimes forget to use precautions. Maintaining a safe distance, using fog lights and reducing distractions are some safety measures that can be followed to avoid accidents.

It is also important to slow down and drive at a speed suitable for the conditions. Again, hazard lights should not be used in foggy conditions as other drivers will not know when a motorist is changing lanes.

More importantly, motorists must start with enough time on hand to reach their destination.

Speeding during poor visibility will endanger the lives of all on the road. Weather conditions are not something that we can control, but we can definitely make the roads safer by taking charge of our vehicles and being disciplined.
