Abu Dhabi: Tawazun Economic Council (Tawazun), joined other national organisations in sponsoring a trek by the Emirati adventurer Abdullah Mohammad Al Ahbabi across the North Pole in celebration of the ‘Year of Zayed’.

After reaching the northernmost point on Earth, Al Ahbabi, the youngest Arab to make such a journey, raised the UAE flag there.

“The support given by Tawazun Economic Council to this journey comes as part of its encouragement to the youth to explore new interests, to develop their skills and to reflect the bright image of the UAE in everything they do,” said Tareq Abdul Raheem Al Hosani, chief executive officer of Tawazun.

He applauded Al Ahbabi’s initiative, saying that while taking this expedition, he carried with him the spirit of adventure, a value instilled in the Emiratis by the founding father, Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, and carried on by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Commenting on this achievement, Jamal Salem Al Dhaheri, chief executive officer of Senaat, said: “We are truly proud to support Al Ahbabi in his ambitious and truly inspiring journey. Shaikh Zayed has instilled in us the willpower and determination to challenge and achieve the impossible, and this young Emirati man embodies the UAE’s values of striving for the first place in all fields.

“We are confident that the youth of the UAE will play a vital role in the future of the UAE and we recognise the importance of investing in their capabilities. We wish the young adventurer success and safe return home,” he added.

Commenting on his motivation to go journey to the North Pole, Al Ahbabi said: “I was motivated by the values of Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan and his teachings about patience, determination and perseverance.”

Accompanied by a team of four other trekkers from various nationalities, Al Ahbabi trekked over 100 miles of the North Pole unassisted, while dragging a sled containing 45km of equipment.
