Dubai: To their delight and surprise, residents in Dubai and Sharjah woke up to a wet and windy morning as rain fell across various parts of the city on Monday.

The National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) said that there will be more rainfall in different parts of the country throughout the day until Wednesday morning.

A spokesperson at NCM told Gulf News: “It has been raining in some areas this morning. And different areas will experience rain through today, tomorrow and Wednesday morning. It will not be all over the country, mostly the northern and eastern areas. It will extend over the coast and some internal areas and the country will experience a significant fall in temperature, especially in the mountainous areas.”

The NCM posted an online video of the rain, with the caption: “Rashdiya in Dubai now.”

The NCM said that residents can expect cloudy weather and a drop in temperature on Monday.

The weather bureau also said that the Arabian Gulf will be rough, and advised residents are advised not to venture out to sea.

The hard sound of raindrops against vehicles in Monday morning’s traffic was also posted online, with the caption: "Al Nouf area in Sharjah."

The rainfall is expected to continue until Wednesday with scattered clouds, according to the NCM.

Moderate rainfall was recorded in the Hamda area of Sharjah.

Strong northwesterly winds will continue to blow over the coastal and internal areas, with wind speeds ranging from 18km/h to 32km/h, which may reach as high as 45km/h at times.

In its daily weather forecast, the NCM said that the minimum temperature will be 12-26°C in coastal areas, 11-27°C in internal areas, and 7-17°C in the mountain area.

"The amount of clouds will increase over scattered areas of the country, associated some convective clouds with rainfall of different intensity," said the NCM.

Moderate to fresh winds will blow inland and may cause blowing dust over some exposed areas.

"The relative humidity is likely to increase by night and early morning over some internal areas," said the NCM.

Waves are expected to be very rough in the Arabian Gulf and Oman Sea.

Further rain was also reported in areas of Sharjah, as well as in Ras Al Khaimah and parts of the northern emirates.

The lowest temperatures recorded on Monday was 5 °C at Jebel Jais in Ras Al Khaimah, 6 °C at Jebel Mebreh, 9.2 °C at Damtha, 9.3 °C at Raknah and 9.7 °C at Al Jazeera.
