Dubai: In a long-awaited move, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has announced that it will allow buses operated by Dubai’s private transport firms to pick up passengers from Dubai Airport heading to neighbouring emirates.

According to RTA, the Naqel service is part of RTA’s endeavours to curb traffic congestion, and avoid returning buses without riders or obliging companies to contract with other firms.

Interested companies will have to apply with the RTA for permits to carry out the service.

“Naqel Service, which can be accessed through RTA’s website (www.rta.ae) is an initiative allowing buses owned by passenger transport firms to load passengers arriving in Dubai and lift them for returning to other emirates,” said Mohammad Abu Baker Al Hashmi, Director of Planning and Business Development, Public Transport Agency, RTA.

Weekly, monthly, bi-annual or annual permits will be available for both the bus drivers and the vehicles.
