ABU DHABI: The Ministry of Interior has issued an advisory to bus drivers and tour operators who organise Haj trips and urged them to abide by the rules of transporting pilgrims.

The advisory is to make their trips timely, pleasant and hassle free, the ministry said.

Buses carrying pilgrims to Saudi Arabia shouldn’t be more than 10 years old [from manufacturing year], and the number of seats should be less than 25. But the ministry said that big buses with 45 seats are more preferred.

Bus seats should be 75 per cent full.

The vehicle should have electronic pad containing names of passengers and purpose of the journey. The carrier should have passed the technical test and should carry its certificate. It must be equipped with all safety and emergency features.

Brigadier Gaith Hassan Al Za’abi, director-general for traffic coordination at the MoI, said the conditions are to ensure the safety of passengers and urged Haj tour operators and its drivers to follow traffic safety rules.
