Dubai:  Commuters and motorists faced heavy traffic on Sunday morning as schools around the UAE re-opened after a long summer break.

Massive traffic jams were reported in different parts of Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi, and road users have been advised to take extra care when approaching or entering school premises.

In Sharjah, serious gridlocks caused delays in major highways in and around Safeer Mall, Al Majaz, Abu Shagara Park, National Paints, Mega Mall, Cultural Square and Sharjah Science Museum.

In Dubai, traffic was also bad for motorists plying in and near the Dubai World Trade Centre, Dubai International Financial Centre, Downtown Dubai, Business Bay, Wafi Mall and Al Barsha 1.

Schools across the UAE are scheduled to reopen today. Long tailbacks were experienced by Sharjah road users bound for Dubai.
