Dubai: Two lucky frequent travellers on Dubai Metro and other modes of public transport in Dubai could be in for a surprise prize of Dh50,000, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced on Sunday.

Beginning Monday commuters using all modes of public transport will collect points and the top two commuters with the highest number of points will win Dh50,000 each.

Apart from metro and tram, riders using public buses and marine transport such as the water taxi and waterbus are also eligible for the bumper prizes.

The frequent traveller prizes along with several other fitness related activities will mark the Public Transport Day observed annually on November 1.

To mark the annual event, the RTA has also lined up several activities compatible with the Dubai Fitness Challenge initiative launched by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Dubai Crown Prince and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council.

The initiatives calls on the community members to practice their favourite sports for 30 minutes a day from 20 October to 18 November 2017.

According to Moaza Al Merri, Director of RTA’s Marketing and Corporate Communication this year’s Public Transport Day festivities includes three categories: frequent travellers, public transport races and Gold Runner competition.

“The first category involves riding public transport using nol Card from October 23 to November 1. The two most frequent public transport users who collect the maximum number of points would be named as winners, and each would receive a cash prize of Dh50,000,” said Al Merri.

The second category of activities will be held on November 1, where several teams of commuters will race different metro, tram, public bus, and marine transport stations.

As they race through the stations, the Participants will be required to perform some exercises upon arrival at each station.

“The winner will be the team that collects the largest number of seals stamped on the participation application at each station and succeeds in reaching the final station,” said Al Merri.

The winning team will receive a cash prize of Dh50,000, the runner up will get Dh30,000, and the second runner up will walk away with Dh15,000.

In the third category of the activities titled Golden Runner competition, which will run via social media from October 23 to November 1, Participants have to follow the social networking sites to locate the Golden Runner who daily visits three RTA stations.

Winners will receive wearable prizes such as Fitbits, Apple watches and iPhone 8.

Al Merri urged the public to use mass transit modes and participate in various activities launched by the RTA this year, including sports events to win the prizes up for grabs in cash and kind.
