Sharjah: In an effort to improve the tourism sector in the UAE the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) has announced the start of the registration period for the 2013 tourist guide course.

The Tourist Guides Licensing and Training Programme, which was launched in 2009, aims to improve the quality of services offered to the growing number of international travellers visiting the UAE. The course is for both beginners and advanced learners and involves theoretical lessons as well as practical training.

Taught by officials from Sharjah Environment and Protected Areas Authority (EPAA), the programme this year will include a new area of discussion covering Wildlife and Protected Areas of Sharjah.

Encouraged to register for the upcoming course, the Authority has invited aspiring tourist guides and professionals who hope to be a part of the growing tourism industry in the UAE.

The course is part of the efforts and strategy to boost and ensure the highest quality standards in the tourism industry by providing an in-depth knowledge of the destination, its history, culture, architecture, archaeology, landscape, environment and the economy, said SCTDA Chairman Mohammad Ali Al No’man.
