Dubai: A Pakistani national who came to Dubai on a holiday got lucky after he bagged a kilogram of gold during a raffle draw.
Syed Sarwar Hasan has just been declared winner of the jackpot prize in Deira City Centre’s Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) promotion.
Sarwar Hasan was among the hundreds of shoppers who earned a raffle ticket for a chance to win a kilogram of gold in exchange for a minimum spend of Dh200 during the annual summer shopping festival.
The six-week-long DSS ended on August 4, but the name of the winner was announced only on Tuesday, just as Pakistanis celebrated their country’s 71st Independence Day.
The value of the gold was pegged at Dh145,000.
Organisers of the raffle were unable to share more details of the winner, except that he was a tourist.
