Abu Dhabi: Community members and children participated in interactive games and experienced space journeys through virtual reality chair installed by Yahsat at Yas Mall to educate people about the satellite communications.

The Yahsat stall aimed to raise awareness among people about the UAE endeavour in space communication, demonstrate its role and help the new generation know about the satellite industry and satellite communications.

A two minute virtual video attracted a number of people who experienced the life in space and they felt that they were flying in the space and can see the earth beneath them and look at stars very closely.

Speaking to Gulf News, Sulaiman Al Ali, executive vice-president for commercial services at Yahsat, said, the prototype interactive set-up of Yahsat at Yas Mall is meant to introduce people to Yahsat activities.

“These all are communication satellites, which help individuals, business and government customers to integrate the remote locations and establish connectivity from an area where communication is not available to their bases to communicate with their bases, families, clinics and hospitals,” Al Ali said.

So far, Al Yah Satellite Communications Company (Yahsat), a private joint stock company, fully owned by Mubadala, the investment arm of the Government of Abu Dhabi has sent three satellites into the space — Al Yah 1 in 2011, Al Yah 2 in 2012 and Al Yah 3 in January this year.

Yahsat, through its smart satellite solutions, engaged the community and shared their experiences of the journey through space and provided people an opportunity to experience the space journey through interactive games and virtual reality chair.

Today, broadband connectivity is playing an important role in creating new opportunities and accelerating innovation. Al Yah 3 delivers reliable and affordable satellite broadband services to parts of the world that need it the most.

Al Yah 3, an all Ka-band satellite, and the first hybrid electric propulsion GEOStar — 3™ satellite completed by Orbital ATK, was launched on an Ariane 5 rocket by Arianespace, on January 26 this year.

Al Ali said: “Yahsat provides communication facilities to 28 countries around the world. Voice, videos, calls, internet, I mean, all kinds of communication can be made through the Yahsat.”

“Yahsat 3 covers almost 95 per cent of the populated area of Brazil and adding more capacity to Africa. We are also covering 90 per cent of African countries, GCC, South East of Asia and some Southern parts of Europe,” he said.

Yahsat activities at Yas Mall started on Wednesday and concluded on Sunday. This weekend Yahsat interactive stall will be set up at the Mall of the Emirates in Dubai for two days.
