Dubai: Shaikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance, on Thursday released the autobiography of Indian philanthropist, businessman and long-term Dubai resident, Surender Singh Kandhari.

A select gathering of Emiratis and expats including the Indian Ambassador to the UAE Navdeep Suri and Consul General of India in Dubai Vipul were present on the during the release of ‘Temple of my Dreams’, a press release said.

Shaikh Nahyan praised the work published by Motivate and said, “The story of his achievement, so well told in this engaging autobiography, reveals how the spirit of tolerance evoked by [late] Shaikh Zayed [Bin Sultan Al Nahyan] encouraged skilled and ambitious people to take a chance in the UAE. Surender has helped our country prosper and has confirmed the wisdom of Shaikh Zayed.”

The book has four major strands. It stands as testament to the creation and development of an industrial empire that now employs over 2,000 people, gives one an inside look into the tyre and battery industry on a global scale and provides signposts to young entrepreneurs on how to set up their businesses.

The book is also a personal account of an extraordinary life and these factors are bound together by the inspiration derived from the construction of the Guru Nanak Sahib Guruduwara in Dubai and how this house of worship was conceived and turned into reality, that being the core basis for the title of the book.

Shaikh Nahayan also added, “Most significant to me is his moral tier that exhibits a degree of tolerance which demands our admiration and gratitude. His is a life that inspires us all.”

Ambassador Suri expressed his admiration for the effort and said it was evidence of the bond that exist between the UAE and India and a book like this is evidence of that sense of brotherhood.

Consul General Vipul stated that books are a matter of record and have no time limit.

One of the special relationships the author explores is between India and the UAE, which is why he said he chose Dubai for the primary release of the book.

Among other celebrities who had flown in from various parts of the world for the release were former Indian cricket captain Bishen Singh Bedi, tennis ace CGK Bhupathi and the British Business Group Chairman and classmate Christie Cherian, the release said.

Kandhari said it had been an incredible year and thanked the minister and the government of UAE for promoting tolerance, interfaith harmony, and cultural identities, while making 140 plus nationalities feel at home. He said his book saluted this exceptional nation and its priorities and the privilege of living and working in the Emirates.
