Dubai: Dubai-based firm INDEX Holding has sponsored the distribution of free meals to hundreds of orphans and other people in need during a meeting with Tkiyet Um Ali, an NGO in Amman, Jordan.

The move came during a visit by a delegation from Dihad, an annual international aid development conference and exhibition in Dubai. INDEX is the organiser of Dihad.

The delegation was headed by Dr Abdul Salam Al Madani, executive chairman of Dihad. The delegation was received by the board members and director-general of Tkiyet Um Ali, an NGO serving hot meals and providing humanitarian aid to the needy.

The delegation was briefed on the NGO’s efforts in maintaining a sustainable food aid programme. Tkiyet Um Ali provides sustainable food aid to 30,000 families living below the food poverty line in Jordan.

Dr Al Madani said: “It was an honour for us to visit Tkiyet Um Ali in Amman, Jordan where we were briefed on the great efforts exerted by this unique organisation to provide sustainable food support.”

Samer Balqer, director-general of Tkiyet Um Ali, said: “We were very pleased with Dihad delegation’s visit to Tkiyet Um Ali and their initiative in sponsoring the food programme and distributing the food by themselves to people in need.”
