Dubai: Students from the JSS International School in Dubai celebrated the 69th Republic Day of India at a special ceremony held at the school last week.

The annual celebration, which included a march by the school students and cultural and sport activities, was attended by Vipul, Consul-General of India in Dubai.

Vipul inaugurated the programme by hoisting the Indian flag and addressing the gathering at the school in Jumeirah Village Circle on Saturday. During his address, he referred to the occasion as being sacred and explained the role played by the architects of the constitution. He also talked about strong relations between UAE and India. He reiterated the dream of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to free the country of problems like communalism, casteism and corruption and create a ‘new India’ by 2022.

The cultural activities reminded the students and the audience of the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters. Members from the Friends India Forum, and heads of JSS institutions and headmasters of schools attended the event.
