Dubai: Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) stranded at Manila airports due to flight cancellations caused by the super typhoon Mangkhut may avail of the 5,000 pesos (Dh339) cash assistance, officials announced on Sunday.

Manila’s Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Sunday advised OFWs returning to the UAE, whose flights were cancelled due to the typhoon to personally appear at the DFA Assistance Desks at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and the Clark International Airport to claim their cash assistance.

OFWs must submit their airline ticket showing their original date of departure, the reissued ticket showing new date of departure, employment contract, and Overseas Employment Certificate.

As of 10pm on Saturday, DFA has distributed cash assistance to 43 OFWs. More are expected to file claims with flights to Hong Kong being cancelled on Sunday.

DFA teams will remain in the airport terminals until Monday, from 10am to 10pm. Other stranded OFWs may claim their cash assistance from the DFA Office of Migrant Workers’ Affairs in Pasay City and all DFA Consular offices around the country, between 8am to 4pm from September 17 to 21.
