Dubai: Human Appeal International (HAI) launched its Ramadan campaign, ‘Make Them Happy’, in Ajman on Sunday, along with a new smart system to collect donations.

The campaign aims to raise Dh57.5 million for charity projects, targeting a revenue growth of 23 per cent over last year. Around Dh20 million will be distributed through Zakat and Dh5 million will be given to orphans and families in need.

The launch of the campaign highlighted the strategies adopted by HAI to cover all charitable projects during Ramadan, which includes four main projects — Zakat Al Fitr, Eid clothes, Iftar and Food donation.

Various health, education and social development projects have received Dh25 million from the target revenue, while Dh4 million will be allocated for ending fast (Iftar). Around Dh1 million is allocated for Eid clothes, Dh2 million for Zakat Al Fitr and Dh500,000 for Food donation.

“Giving is one of the features of the Emirati society. It is a well-established approach that have been passed through generations. And there is no doubt that the best time to provide alms, help the poor and needy in order to draw a smile on their faces is the month of Ramadan,” said Shaikh Mohammad Bin Abdullah Bin Sultan Al Nuaimi, Chairman of Board of Trustees, Member of Federal National Council.

He said charitable projects implemented during 2017 amounted to Dh194 million, while Ramadan campaigns amounted to Dh46.5 million.

The new website (www.ramadan-hai.ae) will facilitate the collection of donations by recording them in the system on the spot, while ensuring safe transactions. To reduce the use of paper, each user will be given smart coupons after each donation.

The Executive Director of HAI explained that the goal of the project is to provide transparency by way of monitoring, auditing and administrative supervising of operations as well as financial reports showing the fund balances at any time.
