Abu Dhabi: A total of 90 buildings in Abu Dhabi have been identified for demolition, the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City announced in a statement sent on Sunday.
The buildings in question are either abandoned or ageing, and include 10 multi-level buildings, 66 villas, 10 government buildings and four privately owned structures. The statement added that the municipality will soon issue administrative decisions for the demolition of the buildings, and authorities have urged owners to seek the required demolition permits.
Abandoned structures that haven’t been maintained pose a threat to public health and safety, and the municipality has so far removed 44 such buildings in Abu Dhabi city. It has also issued 33 violation fines to building owners since the start of the year, and issued notices for the demolition or maintenance of 64 buildings.
