Dubai: Actress Nadine Lustre did not miss a chance to dish out her beauty secrets during a recent Dubai trip; she even had a tip for Filipino expats: less is more.

Most Filipinos, expats in the UAE not excluded, are particular about beauty and hygiene, making them one of the world's biggest consumers of beauty products and cosmetics.

“I think you should just put less make-up because your skin is beautiful. I mean, Filipinos are kayumanggi [brown] and I think it's the most envied skin colour around the world. Just keep it clean, keep it simple, don't put a lot of make-up," she told Gulf News #Pinoy in an interview.

Lustrous

Lustre has recently joined the likes of Filipino celebrities Anne Curtis and Vice Ganda who launched their own brand of beauty products.

Lustre collaborated with Australian cosmetics brand BYS for her makeup collection, “Lustrous”, which she launched this month. During her recent visit to Dubai, Lustre revealed that famed Mexican surrealist painter Frida Kahlo was the first person who came to mind when they conceptualised the makeup line.

“For me, Frida Kahlo is an inspiration,” shared Lustre, who was closely involved in the making of Lustrous. “I love her art, that's why me and BYS decided to use it as a peg for the make-up. I like having colours and seeing flowers.”

What's inside her beauty kit?

The Never Not Love You star also gave us a glimpse of what's inside her kikay [beauty] kit.

“In my kikay kit I have lipstick, eyebrow pens and pencils and cheek tint,” she said.

'I didn't want to be an actress'

The “accidental celebrity” said she never imagined becoming one of the most sought-after stars today.

"As a kid I didn't really want to be an actress or celebrity, but when I started acting for TV that's when I thought, 'Hey I'm really good at this'," revealed the 24-year-old superstar.

Lustre, the other half of the Jadine love team with real-life sweetheart James Reid, broke into the show business scene at the age of 9 as a host for the children's show Storyland. She also landed a hosting gig for Disney Channel Asia. Before becoming an actress, Lustre was also into cosplaying and was also a member and vocalist of the all-female group Pop Girls.

The multi-talented star also loves photography and has also directed Reid's music video.
