Sharjah: The first English language radio station in Sharjah has joined a long list of UAE stations on the radio dial.

Sharjah Media Corporation announced in a statement on Tuesday that it is opening a new FM station dubbed ‘Pulse 95’.

Broadcasting at 95.0, the new station, said owners, “will present a vibrant mix of local and international news, exclusive interviews, features, morning talks, evening segments, and a unique blend of acoustic music that will cover chart-topping hits”.

Themed ‘The Heart of Sharjah’, Pulse 95 was launched on Monday.

Shaikh Sultan Bin Ahmad Al Qasimi, chairman of Sharjah Media Council, said in a press release: “The launch of Pulse 95 is an exciting venture into a new market for Sharjah Media Corporation. We have seen a real need to fill the gap in English language output, particularly when so many of the emirate’s residents use English in their day-to-day lives and increasingly conduct business in English.”

Pulse 95 is also bringing listeners popular 40 top of the charts music in an acoustic format, in line with the brand of the station and its talk radio style.

Mohammad Yanez, head of Pulse 95, said in a press release: “We have ensured that every aspect of the content is consistent and the introduction of the acoustic music element follows that perfectly, being complementary rather than intrusive.

“Our goal is to be a totally inclusive, fun, trusted, feel-good station, bringing the listeners positive, upbeat stories of real people,” Yanez said. “We are the first English station in Sharjah, but we are not aiming purely at listeners who are native English speakers. Pulse 95 is still very much an option for people who understand English and still enjoy the format and content of the shows even though it may not be their first language,” he said.
