Dubai: Stargazers gathered in a Dubai astronomy centre on Friday night to see and learn more about meteor showers sparking up the night sky around the world.

The event, organised by the Dubai Astronomy Group, saw a large number of visitors showing up to learn more about the rare celestial phenomenon called the ‘Perseid Meteor Shower’ which will occur for three days.

The event started with a presentation by Hassan Al Hariri, the group’s chief, who talked about the science behind the Perseid Meteor Shower.

He discussed how to observe the showers and any person can take photos of them with a normal camera.

The show was followed by a display of meteors collected by group, a planetarium show.

All of the enthusiasts were gathered at the park and they observed the different planets through telescopes and saw the showers.

On Saturday night, at 9pm, enthusiasts were expected to gather in the mountains near the Showka Dam in Ras Al Khaimah to witness more of the phenomenon.
