A reader asks: I have noticed that during winter season, I get these really sharp shooting pain in my lower-hip area. It has been so worse that sometimes I am unable to even walk.

At times, I am totally fine during the day, however sleeping at night becomes very difficult. The moment I lie down on bed, I am unable to even twist or turn because of the horrible pain.

The pain is more similar to a muscle catch and feels better after a massage.

I have visited doctors, however, none of them could come up with a solution and say there is nothing wrong with my leg or bones after seeing the X-ray and advised to take pain killers.

Dr Ann Mary Jacob, licenced homeopathic practitioner, Al Balsam Homeopathic Centre, Sharjah, replies: It seems like you are getting muscle cramps due to dehydration of hip joint. If you increase your water intake to a glass of plain non-carbonated water every hour, that'll increase hydration of all cells and lubrication of the joints. Hot fomentation will also relieve your pain.

Also, check your Calcium levels, and if it's below normal, you need to take Calcium supplements too. If the symptom persists do consult a qualified homoeopath, who will give you proper treatment based on your symptoms.
