A reader asks: I am 37-years old and my wife is 27. We have a two-year-old child. We got married four-years ago.

My problem is premature ejaculation. It sustains for a maximum of two minutes and I am not getting an erection for the second time. I are extremely disappointed.

I am bogged down by stress and anxiety and I am diabetic too.  We didn't have any problems for the last two years. It all started in the last year.

I need help. Which doctor should I consult, and is it expensive? Is this curable?

Dr Anis Haddad (Urologist, Medcare Hospital) replies: Premature ejaculation is a common disorder that affects around one third of men.

Usually the management of this disorder includes some laboratory tests and a consultation with a Urologist/Andrologist.

The treatment could include oral therapy to be decided after the consultation. The treatment should not be expensive as it doesn’t require or include any surgical procedure and can be done by some advices and oral treatment as mentioned earlier.

Concerning diabetes, though it might not have direct effect on ejaculation, it may have an effect on your sexual performance in general.
