Dubai: Residents in Sharjah will now have ample time to pay off their traffic fines at a reduced cost, all the way until February.

Sharjah Police have announced that the 50 per cent discount in traffic fines will be extended until February 28, 2018.

Maj. Gen. Abdul Rahman Khater, Director of the Media and Awareness Department at Sharjah Police, confirmed the extension of the discount, and urged motorists to pay off their fines through the Ministry of Interior's app, in police stations, traffic police centres, Tasjeel outlets, or at the Police Service Centre in Sahara Mall.

The reduction in traffic fines, which was previously announced, meant that motorists had until the end of December to settle their speeding fines, which they accumulated until October 18.

However, in accordance with the directives of His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Abu Dhabi Crown Prince and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, the the 50 per cent traffic discount has been extended to next year.

In the public safety announcement, authorities also advised motorists to follow traffic rules and regulations, and to ensure the safety of others while driving.
