Abu Dhabi: Children under the age of 15, already registered with the population register of the Emirates Identity Authority (Emirates ID), should give this identification number while applying for a new ID card.

An Emirates ID spokesman made the reminder as the deadline for Emirati and expatriate children under the age of 15 across the country to register for ID card ends on September 30.

Previously, an ID card was optional for children under 15 but they had to compulsorily register with the population register of the authority.

But the authority made the ID card mandatory for children under 15 in September 2010.

Those children who had registered with the population register were issued the 15-digit-ID number.

“When they apply for a new card, they have to quote that ID number,” said a spokesman for Emirates ID.

This is applicable for children who were issued an ID card but did not renew it.

He added: “They should also give the ID number while applying for new card.”

If they have lost the ID number, they can visit any registration centre of the authority, take along a passport and a certificate with the ID number will be issued to them free of charge.

The child registration can be completed at more than 1,000 certified typing centres across the country without the need to visit the authority’s registration centres.
