Dubai: Companies owned by Emiratis who are people of determination will get preferential treatment at the purchasing section in the Contracts and Purchasing Department of Dubai Municipality.

Those who possess the People of Determination card issued by the Ministry of Community Development or Sanad Card issued by the Community Development Authority in Dubai are entitled to the privileges.

The move is in line with the ‘My Community ... A City for Everyone’ initiative launched by Shaikh Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, which aims to make Dubai a friendly city for people of determination and also in implementation of the directives of Hussain Nasser Lootah, director-general of Dubai Municipality.

Mohammad Al Zafein, director of Contracts and Purchasing Department, said these privileges include giving priority to people of determination among nationals with a bid price difference of five per cent, exempting them from registration and renewal fees for suppliers, priority for placing purchase orders for less than Dh10,000, and providing facility to submit bank cheques of the company instead of primary bank guarantee if it is not possible to produce a bank guarantee.

He said the privileges also include directing some offers exclusively to people of determination, giving priority in the disbursement of payments, and facility to receive documents by email without being present at the office to facilitate and complete the procedures in a more accessible manner.

Al Zafein stressed that the privileges offered are part of the social commitment of the municipality towards supporting and empowering the people of determination and appreciating their efforts and potential abilities.

“The municipality gives great importance to the people of determination category and is keen to establish and activate all initiatives aimed at supporting them,” he said.

It may be mentioned that Dubai Municipality has been awarded the Best Government Organisation in the UAE for Business Leadership Support for supporting small and medium-sized enterprises within Mohammad Bin Rashid Award for Young Business Leaders 2018.
