Abu Dhabi: A funeral prayer was held on Friday for Emirati serviceman Sergeant Saeed Mohammed Al Hajeri, who was martyred while taking part in the Saudi-led Arab Coalition’s ‘Operation Restoring Hope’.

Worshippers, officers and members of the UAE Armed Forces performed the funeral prayer, which took place at Al Rawashd mosque in Bani Yas, Abu Dhabi

The martyr’s body was laid to rest after the prayer at Bani Yas cemetery.

Earlier on Thursday, the General Headquarters of the UAE Armed Forces announced that Sergeant Al Hajeri was martyred while serving in Yemen.

The GHQ of the UAE Armed Forces extended its sincere condolences to the family of the martyr.

Meanwhile, the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), has sent three aid ships to Yemeni island of Socotra, loaded with 538 tonnes of basic food items.

The move is an implementation of the directives of Shaikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s Representative in Al Dhafra Region, and Chairman of the ERC.

Shaikh Hamdan had ordered immediate provision of Ramadan requirements of the population in the island. He also instructed the implementation of the Ramadan programme, which includes Iftar Project, Ramadan Ration, and Eid clothing.

The first ship, carrying 538 tonnes of Ramadan items with a value of Dh7 million, has arrived at Socotra Port, Within the next two days two more ships will leave for Socotra carrying Ramadan aid to benefit a large number of residents.
